Bathrooms are not necessarily rooms many think about wanting to look good; typically bathrooms are associated with all the bodily functions, unwanted hair, care routines... the bare necessities and we want to get in and OUT!

I am not here to tell you those things are wrong. I am here to help improve your relationship with your bathroom. Often our daily routines are what define our habits, that make us who we are. Most daily routines start and end in the bathroom - it is where you come in to yourself in the morning, where you look at your reflection in the mirror and decide who you are going to be that day; it is where you soak in the tub and let the day melt away, or smile as you wrap yourself in the soft comfort of your warm towel. These spaces get to see all the things we want to hide about ourselves, yet can empower us to see the beauty in their function.

The thing I love most about design is that it doesn't have to be about how expensive items cost. What is truly empowering is how good we feel when we use our spaces!

Here are some things to consider when you are ready to change your relationship with your bathroom, but still want to save that money for a rainy day...

1. If nothing else... Improve your lighting - Lighting can be tricky with its different intensities and color ranges, but the biggest detail I like to consider when updating a bathroom is to provide lighting that is in line with your face for a flushed effect . Lighting sources above or below you can create unwanted shadows and portray a false visual of your appearance.

2. Keep the cabinetry - There are so many techniques these days to update the appearance of those dated cabinets; depending on your style, keeping the cabinetry but updating around it can give your space a whole new look! These foundation pieces are typically one of the more expensive items in a remodel; re-utilizing it can allow you to spend your dollars elsewhere.

3. Go over your existing flooring - Depending on your material preferences, there are some instances where you can install new flooring over your existing to save on demo costs. Please consult your local flooring expert to advise if this is a good option for you.

4. New tile at shower walls - If your shower floor or tub is in good condition and there are no signs of water damage, a big opportunity to save some money is to only replace the tile at your shower walls. I will admit this one is a little harder to determine on your own, as there are instances when plumbing items should be inspected for replacement.

Wishing you the best in your updating adventures!!
